The citizens of the Borough of Bernardsville are served by the Bernardsville Fire Co. and First Aid Squad, which is an all-volunteer department (www.bernardsvillefire.org). The Fire Company and First Aid Squad  (which are both part of the same organization) have been in existence since 1897, and is an independent organization made up of community volunteers who are fully-trained firefighters and Emergency Medical Technicians. Any resident who is interested in becoming a volunteer firefighter or EMT should contact the Fire Company, which is located at 118 Mine Brook Road.

The Fire Prevention Bureau, on the other hand, is a department of the Borough's municipal government. The Fire Marshal (as well as Fire Inspectors) are Borough employees responsible for Code Enforcement and Investigation. The Bureau has the responsibility for: a)  inspecting the Borough's schools and businesses to ensure they comply with fire and safety codes, b) conducting investigations of all fires and explosions which occur within the Borough, and c) inspecting residences at the time of re-sale to ensure that they are sold with working smoke detectors, fire extinguishers and carbon monoxide detectors.

Although the Fire Company and the Fire Prevention Bureau are separate entities, they work closely together to ensure the safety of Bernardsville's residents and local businesses.
